Our story epitomizes the classic American dream. The founder of BHS, Boman K. Najmi, came to the United States in 1966 to obtain his master’s degree in Engineering. His career track eventually landed him in New York City where he ran production for one of the largest ‘gift’ suppliers to major department stores. Executive brass desk items were one of their best-selling lines. Due to the popularity of brass in the 1970’s, Boman became known as the expert in this field.
In the early 1980’s a major U.S. pharmaceutical company wanted to buy a brass letter opener imprinted with the name of one of their top drugs and Boman was tapped as the best source for this unique promotional order. As a natural entrepreneur, he founded BHS International,Inc. and began supplying pharmaceutical-related promotional products to many of the major Pharma companies and advertising agencies. Boman was passionate about inventing new products that would truly make a brand stand out. In the early years, some of his most famous, original, and custom-shaped designs were the capsule paperclip, capsule clock, and scalpel letter opener.
